Assistant Matt Bonzer
Matt Bonzer is an assistant coach for the RRVY Wahoos after being involved with Grand Forks swimming for over fourteen years.
After completing the Swim America program, Matt quickly joined the Grand Forks Seahawks at the age of six. As a club swimmer in Grand Forks, Matt has been through four different team names, close to fifteen coaches, won numerous individual North Dakota State and Central Zone championships, and set over thirty state meet and overall records. As a high school swimmer for the Grand Forks KnightRiders, Matt was a six-time state champion (five individual and one relay), while breaking three individual state records in the process.
His successful club and high school career earned him a scholarship to swim for the Division I, Top-15 program at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where he competed at the Big Ten Championships as a freshman. After one season as a Badger, Matt returned home to Grand Forks to attend the University of North Dakota and compete on the Fighting Sioux swimming and diving team. After qualifying for nationals and being named the North Central Conference Newcomer of the Year in 2005, Matt decided to retire as an athlete to pursue his academic interests.
Matt is now a junior at UND pursuing a degree in political science with a minor in world religions. He is looking forward to working with the intermediate swimmers and helping them mature as athletes and leaders as they are the future of the team. |
